The 2024 Poverty Week report highlights the urgent issue of housing and homelessness in Cornwall, a growing crisis affecting thousands across the region. As part of Challenge Poverty Week 2024, the Cornwall Independent Poverty Forum (CIPF) and its partners shed light on the challenges faced by those at risk of homelessness and the vital work being done by local organisations to offer support. The report includes powerful lived experiences, from photographs capturing the harsh realities of rough sleeping to personal stories that illuminate the emotional toll of housing instability.
This report also focuses on the importance of the Real Living Wage in alleviating poverty, with community initiatives aimed at making Cornwall a Living Wage Place. Contributions from a wide range of organisations, including housing charities, foodbanks, and local businesses, showcase the collective effort to combat poverty and homelessness. Notable highlights include the work of Citadel Cornwall’s homelessness prevention project and the Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum’s involvement in Cornwall’s Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy.
